The Health Design CoLab focuses on interdisciplinary research initiatives that utilize participatory design and community-engaged methods to co-design assistive technology solutions aimed at enhancing the health and living conditions of individuals with disabilities or health-related needs. As a design-oriented research team that integrates expertise in human-computer interaction, interaction design, and industrial design, we are committed to investigating how we can effectively support non-design communities in their health-related design practices. This commitment is exemplified in one of our primary research pathways, which empowers the DIY assistive technology maker community by providing innovative design tools, methods, and technologies that facilitate their creation processes, contributing to transformative advancements in assistive technology.

In pursuit of our goals, the Health Design CoLab has been actively engaged in collaborative design interventions with various design partners, including occupational therapists, older adults experiencing cognitive and physical impairments, their caregivers, and children with dyslexia, among others.
